How safe is sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is very safe. You will be given a prescription for low-dose benzodiazepine medication, which will relax you while allowing you to remain conscious throughout the procedure. The medications are safe and not addictive at such a low dose, and few people experience adverse reactions. You will always be carefully monitored while you are sedated to make sure that you are comfortable and free of stress and anxiety.

Due to the sedation effect, you must make arrangements for transportation to and from your appointment with a driver who can remain at the office while you are undergoing your procedure. We also recommend that you take at least a day or two off so that you can go home and relax following your dental appointment. Do not drive for at least 24 hours after taking the sedative medication.
